Junior School Care and Support
Children are cared for and supported at the Junior School in every aspect of their growth. We have supports in place to ensure their safety, wellness and academic success.
We know the transition into full-time schooling is different for each family. Rest assured that supporting this adjustment is what we do well. To that end, we provide support for students and families academically and emotionally.
Safety, Care, and Management
The safety of the children is of the utmost importance, and we set very high standards. Our campus is gated with a secure entrance, and we have a member of staff responsible for risk management. Important times of transition like pick-up and drop-off are monitored by staff.
Health and Wellness
The health and wellness of our students and faculty is a priority. It's important that students have the skills to practise self-care and mindfulness, be resilient during difficult times, and make connections to find support when needed. Although these sound like grown-up concepts, their roots start in Junior School.
Social and Emotional Support
Because we keep our classroom sizes small, our teachers are able to get to know the students as individuals and can anticipate the needs and support a student might need. The Junior School community is close-knit, and everyone knows each other.
In addition, a counsellor is available at the school to promote healthy, positive adjustment for students as they navigate school and family life. Our counsellor is also involved in classes to equip children with necessary tools for their social and emotional learning.
Academic Support
Academic support starts in the classroom, where students have access to additional teachers during the school day. If more targeted support is needed, associate teachers are available to help students one-on-one or in group settings. We also have a Learning Resource team, which works with students to provide additional support as needed.
A reading tutor is on staff to provide targeted support in reading.
