Advanced Placement

You can take 26 different Advanced Placement courses at our Senior School. AP courses act as university-level courses that you take while still in high school.

Dive deeper into many subjects or concentrate on a specific area of study. You will work with your academic advisor to design a schedule around your interests and strengths, and that align with your post-secondary goals.

You can earn first-year credits from many universities for passing AP exams.

Senior School AP students Capstone presentation

Take your post-secondary prep to the next level and develop academics skills that will serve you well in university in this PhD-style program.

The AP Capstone program is about more than just learning content, but gaining university-level skills. Through the AP Seminar and Research courses, you’ll get in-depth experience researching, writing and presenting your findings. You’ll get to dig deep into subjects you’re passionate about. AP Capstone is your chance to experience writing and defending a thesis while in high school.

Typically, students will begin the AP Capstone program in Grade 11. Students take AP Seminar in Grade 11 and AP Research in Grade 12.

AP Seminar

In AP Seminar, students learn to examine different sides of complex topics. By viewing situations through different lenses, students begin making connections through cross-curricular areas to gain new perspectives.

The type of topics you will discuss may be academic, but they may also relate to current affairs such as genetic engineering or the influence of video games.

AP Seminar trains you to consider other points of view and use solid research to back up your argument.

AP Research

AP Research gives you the chance to deep-dive into your personal interests, in a manner similar to writing a thesis at university.

With the guidance of your teacher, you'll select a topic, conduct your own research and submit a final paper. You'll also be asked to orally defend your paper, just like you would in university.
