Safety First During Inclement Weather
Families travel from many different parts of town and we understand that some areas may be more affected by inclement weather than others. This includes the varying road conditions and potential power outages. Student and staff safety is our first priority and shared responsibility.
Parents and caregivers may decide whether they feel comfortable traveling or sending their child to school based on inclement weather. St. Michaels University School supports and respects the family's decision. If you decide not to send your child to school, please notify the school of their absence.
Snow or Extreme Weather Guidelines
Any decision in respect to the the closing of St. Michaels University School is made by the Deputy Head of School or designate(s). The procedure is as follows:
In the event of snowfall or icy conditions, the Transportation Manager and Deputy Head of School will have a discussion and determine if the weather conditions allow the safe operation of the school buses on the SMUS bus routes. If the school is open, buses may still be delayed or not running on schedule.
In the event of a school closure during the school day, each school's Directors communicate the information to faculty and students. Administrative personnel are notified by their supervisors.
If a decision is made to close the school, it will be communicated through the below channels:
Every effort will be made to have school closure information provided in a timely fashion, either in the course of the school day or as early as possible in the event of an overnight snowfall usually by 6:30 am.
