About University Counselling
Our University Counselling team is here to support you in every step of the post-secondary planning process.
We believe that every student has the skills and ability to chart their own path, with support and guidance from trusted sources. Parents, teachers, and advisors play an essential role in this journey and we encourage you to have conversations about your hopes and plans to bring new insights to the planning process.
Your university counsellor will help you through the process of researching, deciding on, and applying to university programs of interest. While you take ownership of this process, your university counsellor will provide support at every stage. They will also help you choose courses at SMUS that will help support your post-secondary plans.
University counsellors will encourage you to seek post-secondary institutions that are a good fit for your individual attributes as a learner, program interests, finances and preferred living environment. They encourage you to select a university where you will thrive as a student and as a young adult embarking on a new life path.
University Visits
Representatives from more than 80 universities visit the SMUS campus each year. This provides a chance for you to learn more about universities that interest you and ask questions. We also hosts fairs for you and your parents on our campus.
Information Sessions
In addition to university visits, the school holds several information evenings for Grade 12 parents and students about post-secondary planning, and for Grade 8-11 parents and students covering course selection and preparation for post-secondary planning. Many of these sessions are held virtually to allow for all students and parents to attend.
Our university counsellors also regularly write helpful articles for on online News section with information and tips for students and parents.
