Snow Day Guidelines
Any decision in respect to the closing of St. Michaels University School is made by the Deputy Head of School or designate(s). The procedure is as follows:
The Transportation Manager communicates with the Deputy Head of School after determining if the weather conditions allow the safe operation of the school buses on the SMUS bus routes. If weather conditions are such that a school closure is necessary, the Deputy Head of School then communicates that information to the Directors of the Senior, Middle and Junior Schools.
In the event of a closure during the school day, the School Directors communicate the information to faculty and students. Administrative personnel are notified by their supervisors.
In the case of an overnight snowfall, the announcement of the school closure will be made by the Deputy Head of School or designate as close to 6:30 am as possible on the following radio and television stations:
School closure information will also be provided on the SMUS website home page, Facebook and Instagram and on the voice message system at the Junior, Middle and Senior campuses.
Every effort will be made to have school closure information provided in a timely fashion, either in the course of the school day or as early as possible in the event of an overnight snowfall.
