We are thrilled to announce two extraordinary gifts that will make the long-awaited Middle School expansion at St. Michaels University School a reality. Opening in early 2026, this state-of-the-art facility will feature cutting-edge robotics and STEAM spaces, a Counselling and Wellness Centre, and innovative classrooms that will inspire learning for decades to come.
This transformative project is made possible by the unparalleled generosity of two lead donors:
Mr. Graeme Crothall
An alumni parent and long-time supporter of SMUS, Graeme Crothall has been a pillar of philanthropy for our school. From the Crothall Centre and School House to the Snowden Library, Graeme's dedication stems from his belief that “this school is an important place. It does great work, and it deserves full support.”
In this latest act of generosity, Graeme has contributed more than $1.5 million to name the Considine Wing after Chris Considine ‘70, a beloved alumnus, alumni parent, and long-time Board member. Chris and his wife Susan have four children, Anna’ 19 Nicholas ’17, Jonty ’12, Maxwell’ 10, all who were lifers at the school.
Chris’s tireless commitment to our school, spanning decades, has left an indelible mark, and we can’t wait to welcome students into this space honouring his legacy.
The Hayes Family
As proud and devoted parents, the Hayes family—First and Robert Hayes—joined our community in the fall of 2024 with a shared commitment to education and a deep desire to invest in the future of their children. Their family of five includes their three children Keane, Iris and Winston, two of who are current Junior School students.
With an unwavering belief in the transformative power of education, the Hayes family has shown generosity by pledging a $1-million gift to name the Hayes Library Commons, a vibrant central hub for collaboration, discovery, and connection in the new Middle School.
Their contribution reflects their values as parents who wholeheartedly support the school and its community. The Hayes family’s gift will leave a lasting legacy, ensuring that every student in our community has access to spaces that inspire creativity, connection, and innovation for generations to come.
Join Us: Build the Future Together
As part of the Journey for Life Campaign, we invite everyone in our community to participate in this exciting chapter. Contributions can be pledged over the next five years, ensuring that every family has the opportunity to make an impact.
As a current parent, 12-year SMUS employee, and proud Director of Advancement, I can confidently say that our school remains steadfastly committed to putting students first. Together, we build opportunities for every student to become their best selves.
Thank you to Graeme Crothall, the Hayes family, and all who continue to support this incredible journey. Now, let’s unite to complete this project and leave a legacy for generations to come
Build the future with SMUS.
