Pure and simply, Bobby Ross '87 was one of the greatest ever rugby players to move through the SMUS program.
A supremely talented fly half, with sublime skills and a wonderful feel for the game, he was a key cog in the powerhouse SMUS 1st XVs of 1985-86 and 1986-87. Indeed, the latter team is still considered by many to be the finest ever in school history.
Upon graduation, Ross continued to impress, performing with great distinction at club level for both the University of Victoria and James Bay Athletic Association, while also representing the Crimson Tide, BC and Canada. His list of accolades include playing 58 times for his country, twice as captain, while scoring 419 points in the process. He also competed in the 1991, 1995 and 1999 Rugby World Cups.
Long overdue was his induction to the BC Rugby Union Hall of Fame. Happily, earlier this month, at a celebration gala in Vancouver, Ross did take his deserved place in the Players Category, as one of the all-time legends to represent the province.
