As the academic year draws to a close, the SMUS External Programs department is gearing up for another bustling summer of camps.  We are excited to launch new day and overnight camp offerings.

The always-popular SMUS Basketball Camps, led by Jamie Yorath ('10) and Graeme Hyde-lay (’15), continue to be met with tremendous enthusiasm by the community, with registrations already nearing capacity.  These camps prioritize fun, skill-building and offer individualized attention, thanks to a high coach-to-player ratios.

We have also received significant interest in our new Rugby Camp, offered in both day and overnight options, from August 11-16, 2024. Led by Scott Manning, Head Coach of the University of Victoria men’s varsity rugby team, this camp aims to help young athletes become better all-around players.

"My goal is to help athletes and coaches bridge the gap between where they are and where they want to be and I want to make it thoroughly enjoyable along the way," said coach Scott, who is just finished his third season as head coach of the Vikes.

Tailored for teenage boys aged 13-16 who have prior rugby experience and are eager to elevate their game, this experience offers a unique blend of game scenarios and skill improvement paired with off-field personal growth.

In addition to sports camps, we also have camps geared towards science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Our STEM camps for 13–16-year-olds are also available for both day and overnight camps.  This summer we have camps that focus on Engineering, Video Game Development and, our newest addition, Ethical Hackers, which will challenge the puzzle-solving skills of future cyber experts.

For our younger campers, we're delighted to host camps at the Oak Bay-based Junior School campus this summer. Of course the Junior School now features a beautiful new Trottier-Morgan Annex, which will provide wonderful new space for our camps to access. Among the diverse offerings held there are the Creative Minds and Movers Camp (ages 3-5), Discovery Camp (ages 6-7), and Adventure Camp (ages 8-11). The newly constructed facilities provide an ideal setting to nurture a fun and welcoming camp environment, complete with age-appropriate furniture and a brand-new playground and will offer our younger campers an unforgettable experience.

This year also marks the debut of SMUS Camps' Learn to Row camp, catering to those eager to grasp the fundamentals of the sport. Additionally, we're introducing an Intermediate camp for individuals with limited rowing experience, aiming to enhance their skills and knowledge to the next level. This will be a great opportunity for campers to get out on the water this summer.

SMUS camps are open to anyone and registration is open. For a comprehensive list and detailed information on our 2024 summer camp programs please refer to our Summer Camp Calendar
