It’s always been said how quickly the year goes by at SMUS, and as we come to the end of September, with three weeks of classes now behind for students as well as the myriad of tryouts for sports, musicals, club fairs, and outtrips, one department leaping to September 2025 is the Admissions Office.
I was reminded in a recent conversation that sometimes people benefit from a gentle prompt to get on with applications at this time of year, because, well, everyone is just settling into this year – rightly so not thinking about next year!
However, the practical reality of the school admissions world, is quite different. Already next month, SMUS Junior School, Middle School, and Senior School assessments will start taking place and there are limited spaces in certain grades. If you, or others you may know might be considering SMUS, it is strongly advised to get those applications in early this fall.
Not quite ready to apply? SMUS is hosting an Open House October 18. This is an ideal way to get an inside view of SMUS on a typical school day. Have acquaintances in other countries? SMUS Admissions may just be travelling to that country. If your country is not yet on the list, please reach out to the Admissions Office at [email protected].
In addition to selecting SMUS for your child’s academic journey, there is the financial aspect as well. To that end, SMUS has a robust Financial Aid program, and our current families are given the first opportunity to apply for FA to be awarded for the 2025-2026 school year. The application period is October 1 to November 30. You are encouraged to review the school’s financial aid program information found here. By adhering to this timeline, returning families can expect to hear the outcome in January 2025 before registration for the following year is required. For students applying for the 2025-2026 school year and considering financial assistance, please submit the FA application to Apple Financial at the same time as the admissions application is submitted. Both applications are managed independently from the other, but it allows families to receive a decision from the School and Financial Aid at the same time in order to make an informed decision on acceptance.
For our international families, I would be remiss if I did not address study permits to Canada. SMUS is exempt from changes being brought forward as it relates to study permits to attend SMUS. We are very much business as usual and look forward to meeting our wonderful current and prospective families around the world.
We appreciate what a significant decision it is to select a school for your child and the commitment you are making to it by remaining a part of it. This year, just over 1,040 students are enrolled from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12. Annually, SMUS welcomes approximately 225 new day and boarding students, and importantly, welcomes back over 800 returning students. Thank you for the trust you place in St. Michaels University School.
