Given the sheer volume of events at the school, both anticipated and unexpected, the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee has decided to postpone the drawing together of focus groups until September. We want to ensure that the groundwork for this part of the process is thoughtfully laid and that participants are not feeling pressed by the season and timeline. Because they will not be available in person for conversation next year, Dr. Magassa has reached out to those Grade 12 students who have expressed interest to ascertain whether they wish to be interviewed before leaving campus or would prefer to join in virtual discussions next year.
We’re pleased that so many people have completed the EDI Survey. Having heard directly from individuals who wished to complete the survey but were unable within the timeline, we have reopened access to the survey until August 2. Because the response data is not sensitive to a fixed timeline, we are free to provide this additional opportunity for input. If you have already completed the survey, you have our gratitude and please do encourage others to participate as well.
We were also encouraged by the robust voluntary participation of our staff in Dr. Magassa’s EDI and Anti-Racism Workshop this term. Another session will be offered in the fall.
The Advisory Committee will be gathering in August to consider data generated by the survey and to prepare for the focus group process. If you have already expressed interest in joining one of these sessions, Dr. Magassa will be in touch with you towards the end of August. Please feel free to contact him directly at [email protected] if you would like to have your name added to the list.
Once the focus group and individual interview stages are completed, the Advisory Committee will deliver its recommendations to the Board of Governors by March 2022. In the meantime, we’ll continue to take advantage of opportunities to deepen and broaden EDI initiatives at the school.
