At the start of the school year, students from our Junior, Middle and Senior schools enjoy opportunities to learn out of the classroom. From day-long fun at camp to five-day rock climbing, hiking and sailing trips, the outdoor education component of a SMUS education grows with every grade.
Outdoor education trips are designed to teach students real-world skills including leadership, teamwork, perseverance and goal-setting.
With access to forests, the ocean and mountains right in our own backyard, students at SMUS get lots of opportunities to get out of the classroom and learn in the natural environment.
We joined a group of Grade 10 students who were learning to sail aboard the SALTS Pacific Swift ship. Students Sophia Tafel and Jack Kelley hosted a Facebook Live to talk about their experience and give us a tour of the ship. You can rewatch the livestream below:
