For six Monday afternoons in October and November, Grade 2 students in the Buddy Reading Club take the bus to the Richmond Road campus and spend time reading with their Senior School counterparts.
The club is offered as an extracurricular activity that aims to enrich the overall learning of students and encourage them to read more. Originally conceived by Grade 12 student and Head of the Library Council, Oliver Bild, the club is now in its 10th year. Oliver helped develop the program that not only promotes literacy, but provides younger students with an older role model and creates a stronger link between the two campuses.
Reflections on Buddy Reading
by Hamish
For Buddy Reading, we go on a school bus and we meet our buddies outside. We walk straight and go into the Snowden Library. I like that if you forget to bring a book, there are lots of fun books there to read. I like that after you finish reading, you get to play games like chess, Don’t Wake Daddy and Jenga.

My buddy’s name is Beatrice and she’s really nice because when I first met her, she showed me photos of where she went on Spring Break. She went to Mexico with her friends. I like to read Lotus Lane books. I like that we get to play games after we read and get to read with a buddy. Kids will have fun when they read with a buddy.
