A number of our alumni athletes have been training and competing this summer, and representing Canada on some of the world's biggest sporting stages.
Field Hockey
Anna Mollenhauer '17 is off to Santiago, Chile later this month to compete in the 2021 Junior Pan American Cup as a member of Team Canada.
The University of Victoria athlete said, "This tournament has been in the back of a lot of our minds for a while now, given that it was supposed to take place in December 2020. A lot of hard work and time has been put into preparing for it, and I feel fortunate to be a part of this great group of girls."
The top three teams at the Junior Pan Am Cup tournament will qualify for the Junior World Cup tournament in South Africa in December.
Golf
On Monday, August 9, Jackson Rothwell '19 will tee off at the US Amateur Golf Championship in Oakmont, Pennsylvania.
In early July, Jackson won a qualifier at the Victoria Golf Club to earn a spot at the US Amateur.
Rowing
Firinne Rolfe '21 will compete for Canada next week at the World Rowing Junior Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
In July, Rowing Canada named Firinne to 2021 National Junior Team to compete in the Women's Four competition. Through much of the summer, she has been training with fellow national team members to prepare for the event.
Rugby
Congratulations to Mike Fuailefau '10, who represented Canada on the biggest sporting stage imaginable: the Olympic Games.
Mike was a member of Canada's men's rugby sevens team, which finished 8th at the Games. We are incredibly proud of Mike and the rest of Team Canada on an exceptional showing at the Olympics.
Quinn Ngawati '17 earned his first rugby cap for Canada this summer during a Test against the Wales national team. While Canada lost the match 68-12, Quinn played well in his senior international debut.
Congratulations to all SMUS alumni and students who have competed or are competing at a high level this summer.
