Four police officers smile at the tournament

The Victoria City Police Basketball Tournament is a fixture on the local basketball scene. In fact, this is the 52nd edition of the tournament. It regularly  attracts many of the top senior girls and boys teams from across British Columbia.

The prestigious event is sponsored and run by members of the Victoria City Police Athletic Association. This year's tournament includes eight girls and eight boys teams, including both SMUS Senior Blue Jags squads.

Other girls teams in a strong field are Coquitlam's Charles Best, GW Graham of Chilliwack, Courtenay's Mark Isfeld, Southridge of Surrey and local teams Oak Bay, Pacific Christian, and Lambrick Park. The Blue Jags, ranked No. 1 among girls AA teams in BC, will play their tournament opener on Thursday at 5:30 pm against Isfeld.

In addition to the BC AA seventh-ranked Blue Jags, the boys field includes a number of other strong AA teams — third-ranked King George of Vancouver, sixth-ranked Brentwood College, eighth-ranked Lambrick Park and Glenlyon Norfolk School. Other teams competing include AAAA schools GP Vanier of Courtenay and Nanaimo District Secondary, and BC AAA Honourable Mention Mark Isfeld of Courtenay. The SMUS boys, fresh off a fifth-place finish in the Rich Goulet Memorial Chancellor tournament in Burnaby, will take on Vanier in their opener on Thursday at 1:30 pm.
