Ruth happily joined the SMUS community in January 2023, arriving from more than 24 years working for 2 different public school systems in BC, teaching and supporting students mainly in elementary and middle school settings. For 5 of those years she worked as a District Educational Assistant with some of the most compromised and challenging students.
Alongside her work in public schools, Ruth founded and ran a community based social cognitive therapy clinic, providing youth and family social and behavior support programs, early play therapy programs, as well as summer camps and community support work.
Graduating from child and youth care with distinction, Ruth was also awarded Educator of the Year in 2010 by Victoria Community Living Association.
Ruth loves learning and being outside where our world has so much to offer on every level. She also has a longstanding love of sharing knowledge and learning together in the realm of social emotional development.
Raising her grandson keeps her young and active!
