John MacKay is Associate General Counsel for the Paper Excellence Group, a privately held manufacturer of pulp, paper and packaging products with over 10,000 employees across the Americas and Europe. Prior to his present posting, Mr. MacKay spent over 20 years as counsel and partner with major international law firms based in Singapore, with extended placements in London and New Delhi, focusing on the development, financing and acquisition of major energy and infrastructure projects. He returned to British Columbia in 2017 to serve as General Counsel for a client developing the Woodfibre LNG project in Squamish. He is qualified as a barrister and solicitor in British Columbia and a solicitor in England and Wales.
Mr. MacKay earned a B.A. (Hons) in Political Studies from Queen’s University and a Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of British Columbia.
Mr. MacKay and his wife Karen currently live in Victoria, BC and are the parents of three children attending the school, Aidan '24, Kieran '27 and Kayleigh '29. He is also presently serving as the President of the SMUS Parents’ Auxiliary.
